An excellent source of information for the very latest things to do in Gyor is the free magazine 'Gyori Est', which is published every fortnight and lists all of the current festivals, concerts and events taking place in this part of Hungary. The Gyor National Theatre on the Gyori Nemzeti Szinhaz is always worth a look, since numerous events are regularly staged here, including concerts and performances by the acclaimed Gyor Ballet company.

The Spring Festival is a time for music in Gyor and thousands flock to hear the concerts performed by the celebrated philharmonic orchestra, together with street entertainment and many exhibitions welcoming in the warmer weather. One of the biggest events in Gyor is the Hungarian Dance Festival, which is staged every other year and takes place in June.




Also in June and running until the middle of July, the Gyor Summer Festival dates back some 30 years and features a series of events taking place along the banks of the River Raba. These include the International Folk Dancing and Folk Music Festival, along with the extremely popular International Handcraft Fair, where a range of interesting Hungarian souvenirs can be found. Of course, with Budapest being so close to Gyor, there are many more festivals less than two hours away, if you are prepared to make the effort and travel the distance.
